Philippi Covered Bridge
  Site of the first land battle of the Civil War, the Philippi Covered Bridge is still in use as a span across the Tygart Valley River on US Rte. 250. Built in 1852, it is the oldest and longest covered bridge in WV and was built by Lemuel and Eli Chenoweth with masonry by Emmett O'Brien. June 2 - 3, 1861, Confederate forces battled Union forces for control of the bridge at (then) Philippi, VA.
