| Beat the summer doldrums with Kanawha County Public Library’s summer reading clubs for adults and teens. You might win a Kindle e-reader! Both clubs start Tuesday, May 29, and end Aug. 31. You can register online at www.kanawhalibrary.org or at your local branch of KCPL.
Britton Summer Reading Club
The 12th annual Britton Summer Reading Club lets adults choose from two options to fit their summer lifestyle. You can read any 20 books, or you can read eight books – one book each from eight of ten possible categories, including biography, fantasy, general fiction, general nonfiction, inspirational fiction, mystery, romance, science fiction, West Virginia or western.
Those who complete the challenge by Aug. 31 will receive a magnetic bookmark. There will also be a prize drawing after the program ends. This year’s grand prize is a Kindle Fire e-reader donated by the Friends of The Library Foundation of Kanawha County.
Cosmic Reading
The Cosmic Reading Summer Reading Club is for teens, ages 12 to 19.
The rules are simple. During the program, check out materials on your reading level from your local library, then fill out an entry form posted on KCPL’s website under Cosmic Reading.
Read or listen to a total of seven books and fill in the entry form to earn a prize. If you don’t want to log your reads online, you may pick up an entry form at any KCPL location and turn it in when you’ve completed the program.
Once you log seven entries you’ll earn your choice of an aluminum water bottle or ear buds! Teens will be notified by phone or e-mail to pick up their prize. Everyone who completes the program wins!
Want to keep on reading for a chance of winning the grand prize? Read and log additional books either online or on the additional entry form you can be pick up at any KCPL library. The top three readers from each KCPL location will receive a messenger bag, and one lucky reader will win a Kindle Touch e-Reader.

Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave is one of America’s natural wonders and the longest cave system in the world. This historical overview of archaeological research presents evidence of its prehistoric and historic use. The discussion focuses on pioneering work conducted in the cave by Patty Jo Watson during the 1960s as well as investigations conducted in 2003 by the University of Kentucky’s Program for Archaeological Research.
